The EU Commission and Swedish wolves

The European Commission remains skeptical of Swedish arguments that a wolf hunt would be the best way to protect the endangered species in this country.

There are around 350 wolves in Sweden, and many of them are related to each other, so the genetic pool is limited and the species under threat. But even though they are endangered, there are many in Sweden who wouldn’t mind if there were less wolves.

Even if they are compensated by the state for their losses, farmers don’t like wolves killing their sheep and dogs, and the Samis of the north say that their reindeer are under attack.
